Crane Rental in Tacoma

Lifts from the Port to the Foothills

Snell Crane Service handles crane work across Tacoma and Pierce County: industrial equipment on the Tideflats, steel and precast downtown, and civil jobs up in the foothills. We're based in Olympia on the I-5 corridor, and our NCCCO-certified operators are available 24/7.

On every job, our project managers walk the site, write the lift plan and take care of the permits, paperwork and hassle. That's how we've worked since 1992.

Local Know-How

Pierce County Site Conditions

The Port of Tacoma Tideflats are flat but built on fill near the water, with rail spurs, heavy truck traffic and overhead lines on most sites, so outrigger mats and a careful setup plan matter. Downtown and up the hill toward the Stadium District, slopes and narrow lots shape where a crane can sit. In Fife, Puyallup and Sumner, newer warehouses and plants bring steady rooftop and process work.

East of the valley, jobs on SR-410 toward Greenwater mean two-lane roads, narrow shoulders and ground that has to be checked before the outriggers go down. We reach Tacoma on I-5 and SR-167.

Local Project

From the Job Site

At Greenwater, up SR-410 in the foothills east of Enumclaw, we set a 135-ton crane on a culvert job. Mountain road work like this takes a different plan than a Tideflats lift: limited setup room, traffic on a two-lane highway and ground conditions checked before the crane goes up.

FAQ

Tacoma Questions

Do you work on the Port of Tacoma Tideflats?

Yes. We plan Tideflats lifts around rail, overhead lines and fill soils. When equipment arrives before the site is ready, we can receive and store it in our 4.5-acre, 24-hour secured yard. See job site storage.

Can you set a crane on a rural or mountain road in east Pierce County?

Yes. Our project managers check the road, shoulders and ground during the site visit, pick a rough-terrain or all-terrain crane to suit it, and handle the permits for the work zone.

What's the largest crane you can bring to Tacoma?

Our largest is the 330-ton Liebherr LR 1300 crawler. On rubber tires, the 275-ton Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 is our biggest. We size the crane from your loads, radius and setup area, not the other way around.
